Hunter Skaters Figure Prominently In Trophy

ALANNAH Stott and Sydnee Knight led a strong Hunter charge at the prestigious Hollins Trophy Figure Skating competition held in Canterbury this month.
The annual tournament is the largest of its kind in Australia and attracts interstate and international competitors.Fourteen-year-old Stott became the intermediate ladies champion, and Knight, 13, was the runner-up in the novice ladies category.The results were encouraging in the lead-up to the NSW and Australian championships.The state titles will be at Penrith next month and will be used for qualification for the national titles to be held at Hunter Ice Skating Stadium at Warners Bay from August 18 to 25.Stott was also victorious in her division at the Autumn Trophy in Canberra last month.The Hunter's Brad McLachlan has been in great form as well. The 15-year-old was the intermediate men's champion at the Autumn and Hollins trophies. He will carry strong hopes of victory at the NSW championships next month, along with Stott and Knight.Other Hunter skaters Leah Cloke, Rebecca Dellaca and Brittany Williams also put in outstanding efforts at the Hollins Trophy, but the trio are unable to compete at state level.Nine-year-old Cloke won the preliminary nine-years division, Dellaca, 12, was the preliminary 10-years-and-over champion, and Williams, 14, was second to Dellaca.? Three players from Phoenix North Hockey Club have snared places in the NSW Under-16 All Schools boys hockey team.Zeke Newman, Liam Alexander and Joshua Willott will contest the National Under-16 All Schools Championship in Melbourne from August 4 to 10.The trio are part of a strong Phoenix North side who are undefeated in the Newcastle junior boys A-grade competition.?
