The Hunter's only synchronised skating team received expert tips from Disney ice virtuoso Robert Stoker yesterday.
Ice Reflections, who are aiming for the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics, had a special training session with the Disney on Ice company manager. Mr Stoker was at Hunter Ice Skating Stadium to also promote The Magical World of Disney on Ice production, to be performed in Newcastle in July. The 20 skaters, aged 10 to 23, impressed Mr Stoker with their fancy footwork, graceful dance steps, spins and jumps. They were shown a few extra moves by the former competitive skater, which included "the pin wheel" and "the kick wheel". Skaters performing the pin wheel skate in unison in a line, while the kick wheel is a showy move in which performers skate in a straight line while doing high leg kicks. Mr Stoker said the team showed promise. The Magical World of Disney on Ice will be performed at the Newcastle Entertainment Centre from July 19. Sarah-Kate Scicluna
