SKATERS in and around Mayfield are looking forward to a getting a new skate park this year.

Greg Bennett, from the Hunter Valley Skate Shop, praised the new park's design.

"The design is a good one because it's different from the usual and there are things that can be added to it in the future such as lights and barbecues," Mr Bennett said.

Work has begun on the new park, which will be located in Dangar Park, Mayfield. It will provide a safe place for skaters of all ages and abilities to practise their skills.

Dangar Park has always been popular, with its pool and oval. The addition of the skate park will add another feature.

The new skate park will also relieve the pressure on the Islington skate park.
